92nd St Y:
The Musical Introductions Series places teaching artist, Lynne Wilson, with students in grade 3 for twelve in-class sessions that introduce students to the fundamentals of music. Children learn basic musical concepts like melody, rhythm and dynamics; develop listening skills critical not only to music appreciation but to success in the classroom; create and perform their own work (the concert is scheduled for Deember 3rd) and attend age-appropriate concerts by artists of international reputation at the 92nd Street Y's Kaufmann Concert Hall. Teachers are provided with curriculum materials that introduce musical concepts, vocabulary lists and exercises which help support the work of the teaching artists and which prepare students to attend concerts at the Y. For more information, visit the 92nd Street Y website.

Together in Dance:

Together in Dance was founded in 2000 with the primary purpose of providing professional development to dance educators, physical educators, classroom teachers, and dance teaching artists. The program continues to provide quality dance programming for all children. The company’s work always utilizes the NY State Learning Standards for the Arts and the NYC Curriculum Framework for the Arts. At P.S. 150, Together in Dance will be working with our first and second grade teachers until mid-December. Part of the program is a Family celebration that will take place on Dec. 4th from 6pm - 7:30pm. For more information on the program, visit the Together in Dance website.

Chess In The Schools:

Mr. Fitzko is the assigned Chess-in-the-Schools trained instructor for our school. He teaches an hour-long chess lesson once a week in five classrooms during the school day in the fall semester (currently four 3rd grade classes and the 2nd grade TAG class) and in five different classrooms in the spring semester (the other four 3rd grades classes and probably the 4th grade TAG class). In addition, there is an After-School Chess Club that meets on Tuesdays from 3:15 PM to 5:15 PM. Through the Club, students are introduced to advanced chess concepts and receive personalized attention. For more information, visit Chess in the Schools

Studio in a School:

The Studio in a School program provides age-appropriate art activities for our Kindergarten and 1st grade classes. Teachers learn from artists how to incorporate the visual arts into classroom studies, and how collage, painting, construction, and clay can provide opportunities to develop literacy, social, and basic learning skills. By participating in art-making activities, young children develop sensory and fine motor skills when manipulating art materials, cognitive skills when presented with choices, and problem-solving and language skills when invited to talk about their art. This program will run for six weeks and will culminate with a school display of art work. For more information, visit Studio in a School
